Monday October 20th, the day after Mom left I had the day off, so I used it to relax, catch up on TV shows I'd missed watching, and recover from the busy week we had. It felt weird to be back in Commons, but still nice to relax.
Tuesday October 21st, I had the day off again. We'd gotten notice that 2 new roommates would be moving in. I'd been hoping it would be Canadian, or from the United Kingdom, or someone who wouldn't be continuously speaking a different language. It sounds weird, but you feel so left out when everyone around you is speaking a language you don't understand. Secretly, I was crossing my fingers hoping Heather, a Canadian I'd met online, would be moving into my apartment, but I'd also wished that for Tracey and other arrivals and it never happened. By 1pm no one had moved in, but I figured they would be moving in soon so I grabbed a shower. Just as I got out of the shower I heard someone talking "Well, that's the first load in". They chose to speak english... maybe it's a Canadian! I stepped outside my door and got super excited. Not only was it a Canadian... it was Heather! We had our screaming/hugging moment and then I helped her move in.
That afternoon she went shopping and then I headed to my Candlelight rehearsal. We sang The Halleluijah Chorus, and The Wonderful World of Christmas. It was amazing. I definitely need to practice them both, but they sound incredible. The Halleluijah Chorus gave me goosebumps. I can't believe I'm in such an amazing choir, and I'm going to be singing as part of a Disney show!
When I got home, I started thinking about how awesome a housemate Heather was going to be, and how nice it was to have a Canadian living here. Then Tina and Ellen suggested that we live in the same room, since we're most likely going to be doing the same things. It worked out really well for them. So that night I moved from my room with Xiodi, to Heather's room, before the other new roommate could move in. Fortunately, Sylvia, our newest roommate, didn't move in until very late. She's very nice, Italian, and on her 2nd contract but Heather and I are definitely better suited to be roommates together... we both love Disney and princesses and the colour pink! Our bedding even matches!
Wednesday the 22nd I spent the morning unpacking and setting up my new room. The closet is a little smaller so there's less room for all my stuff... and both Heather and I have a lot of stuff so it makes it a little more squishy. I worked 4-10pm, but it was awesome because I got off early! Everyone helped me clean the kiosk before we closed since we weren't busy, so there wasn't much to do after 9pm! Work was also awesome because I found out that I was able to get the time off to go home! Definitely an exciting day!
Thursday (the 23rd) I spent the morning worrying about actually meeting Rob's parents. Sounds funny, but I was pretty nervous and it finally sunk in that I was going to be meeting them soon. I worked 3:45 to 9:45 pm, which wasn't a bad shift, but I was working cash at the end of the night. I dislike working cash at the end of the night because that's when all the drunk people come... I ended up having to cut off my first guest, which was a little nervewracking. Especially since the guy was there with his wife and son. Oh well, it was for the best. When I got home, Heather and I made popcorn, Mom style! I put the olive oil in the pot, added the kernels and it turned out to be delicious. I put in WAY too much popcorn, but it was still amazing! When we were done the gigantic bowl our new Italian roommate Sylvia came in with her friends and insisted we eat pasta with them. We tried to explain we were full but it didn't work... the pasta with pesto was delicious though, and it was fun talking to them. They asked our names and when Heather said "Heather" they started singing this "Super Fantastico" song from an 80's Italian-American singer Heather Parisi. It was hilarious. Check out one of her videos on youtube if you ever need a good laugh.
Friday (the 24th) not much happened. I worked 11am-9pm and then came home, hung out with Heather, and chatted to people on msn. I know, it all sounds super exciting!
Saturday (the 25th) I worked 10:30am-9pm. There were some crazy people coming to the kiosk that day. There are always crazy slightly-drunk people on Saturday's, but this day seemed worse. There was a guy who was so excited I ID'd him on his 30th birthday... he made a pretty big scene. Then there was this other guy who kept telling me how beautiful I was... for several minutes... and he was around 40. He kept saying "you have really nice teeth, very straight and white... how did you get that?". It was weird. I tried to make Mom-style popcorn again when I got home, but I ended up burning it. I'll have to try again sometime... I almost ended up burning myself though, so maybe not sometime soon.

Jenn,
I love, love, love your blog. It makes me so excited to get over there and to meet you! Only 11 more days to wait now, I am so happy but also very scared. I'm trying to find out more about getting time off so that my boyfriend can come and visit me. Did you find it really hard to be given time off? I'm hoping for a week....I know, i probably won't get it! Take care, see you soon! xxx
Okay, as for vacation you get 2 days off a week. 3 times a year you can take Friday-Saturday off one week and Sunday-Monday off the next to get a 4 day weekend. If you can get an Additional Day Off (ADO) that means you can get 5 days off in a row. That's probably your best bet unless you are overstaffed and they don't mind giving out a couple ADO's.
After working for 9 months you get 7 days vacation to use, so if he wants to visit after your 9 months you could use all of your vacation to get a week off.
